The brain needs the correct nutrients to function correctly and efficiently. Optimum focus contains a combination of vitamins, amino acids, phospholipids and plant extracts to help with focus and concentration while providing the building blocks needed to improve cognitive function and maintain cognitive abilities.

Choline plays an important role the formation of phospholipids, phosphatidylcholine and acetylcholine; one of the most important neurotransmitters in the body. Preference is given to the synthesis of acetylcholine over phosphatidylcholine when levels of choline are low or the need for acetylcholine increases. If insufficient choline is available, choline containing phospholipids are catabolised from neuronal membranes including phosphatidylcholine. CDP Choline increases phosphatidylcholine synthesis, preserving cell membranes thus having a neuroprotective effect.

Tyrosine is a building block for the neurotransmitter dopamine and can have a positive effect on mood, cognition and physical performance, when under conditions of stress and fatigue. Acetyl l tyrosine is an acetylated form which has an increased ability to cross the blood brain barrier. The acetyl component, along with vitamin B5, is used in the synthesis of acetylcholine. Huperzine A is an extract from Huperzia Serrata which inhibits levels of acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme which breaks down acetylcholine, preserving levels of this important neurotransmitter.

NADH is a substance related to vitamin B3 which is present in all cells and is involved in redox processes, Reduced levels of this substance were shown to be associated with loss of memory and degenerative disease. Vitamins B6, B12 & Folate are essential for healthy neurochemistry which is why Optimum Focus contains the coenzyme forms: P-5-P, Methylcobalamin & L-5-MTHF. Vitamin B1 and B2 protect the nerve cells by trapping free radicals. Furthermore, vitamin B1 improves cerebral blood circulation while B2 has a positive effect on cell respiration, both of these are essential prerequisites to store information in the long term memory

Acetyl L-Carnitine is an ester of the amino acid l-carnitine which, in turn, acts as a transport molecule for fatty acids through the mitochondrial membrane. Acetyl L-Carnitine is metabolized in the mitochondria of cells, a process by which energy is derived for the body’s cellular balance. In addition, it supports the formation of certain neuronal growth factors in specific parts of the brain.  In addition, every capsule contains bioperine®,a standardised extract of black pepper with a minimum of 98 per cent piperine. This active substance improves the absorption of vitamins and enhances the bioavailability of nearly all active substances.
