Glossary

Absorption

The intake of substances by a tissue, such as a nutrient being absorbed or taken in by the body or specific area.

Blood Brain Barrier

This is a layer of tightly compacted cells that make up the wall of brain capillaries. This prevents substances which could be harmful in the blood from running freely into brain and causing damage. This separates the bloodstream from the fluid surrounding the brain.

Calcification

When calcium salts such as Calcium Phosphate builds up in soft tissue rather than the bones where it is supposed to be. This causes the soft tissue to harden and therefore not function properly.

Central Nervous System (CNS)

The mass of nerve tissue that controls and coordinates the activities in the body. This is the part of the nervous system that consists of the brain and spinal cord.
