Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a potent antioxidant found in liver, kidney, spinach, broccoli and potatoes as well as the human body. In supplement form, Alpha Lipoic Acid helps combats potentially harmful chemicals called free radicals is able to reduce oxidation and inflammation. By lowering inflammation, ALA helps protect the body against heart disease, liver disease, diabetes and neurological decline and is seen as an anti-aging compound.

ALA plays an important role in energy production within the mitochondria of cells and when paired with L-Carnitine, can increase the density of mitochondria. ALA has been shown to help creatine get into muscle cells, significantly increasing muscle-creatine levels making it an ideal supplement to take post workout. Since Alpha Lipoic Acid is both water and fat soluble and can be taken in a fasted state, however to reduce gastro discomfort it is recommended to take with a meal.
