Methylcobalamin is one of the two coenzyme forms of Vitamin B12 that the body uses directly in its enzyme reactions, without the conversion step required by the synthetic cyanocobalamin form used in many supplements. It is particularly active in methylation reactions throughout the body, including in the nervous system and in homocysteine metabolism.
Our tablets deliver 1,000mcg (1mg) of methylcobalamin per tablet. The very high percentage of NRV reflects two things: the NRV is set as a low baseline against deficiency, and the body's absorption of B12 per dose is naturally limited, so higher tablet doses help compensate.
People who often benefit from B12 supplementation include vegans and vegetarians (B12 is not found in plant foods), older adults (B12 absorption declines with age), people on metformin or long-term acid-reducing medication, and those with absorption disorders such as pernicious anaemia.
