Methylcobalamin is one of the two coenzyme forms of Vitamin B12 that the body uses directly in its enzyme reactions, without the conversion step required by the synthetic cyanocobalamin form found in most supplements. It plays a particular role in methylation reactions throughout the body, including in the nervous system and in homocysteine metabolism.
Our High Strength Methyl B12 delivers 5,000mcg (5mg) per tablet — equivalent to 200,000% of the EU Nutrient Reference Value. The very high percentage reflects two things: the NRV is set as a low baseline against deficiency, and the body's absorption of B12 per dose is naturally limited, so higher tablet doses help compensate. B12 has an exceptional safety profile with no upper limit established by EFSA.
Vegans, vegetarians, older adults, people on metformin or long-term acid-reducing medication, and those with absorption issues such as pernicious anaemia are among those who typically benefit from B12 supplementation.
