Methyl Folate L-5-MTHF

  • 1,000mcg (1mg) of folate as L-5-MTHF calcium per tablet — the active coenzyme form
  • Bypasses the conversion step required by synthetic folic acid
  • Folate contributes to normal blood formation and homocysteine metabolism
Description

Folate is the natural form of Vitamin B9 — the form found in green leafy vegetables, legumes and liver. “Folic acid” is the synthetic form added to fortified foods and most cheap supplements, and it has to be converted by the body into the active 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) form before it can be used.

A significant proportion of the population — estimated at 30-40% — has one or more genetic variations in the MTHFR gene that reduce the efficiency of this conversion. For these individuals, supplementing with the already-active L-5-MTHF form removes that conversion step entirely.

Our tablets use L-5-MTHF calcium salt (also known as Metafolin® or L-methylfolate) at 1,000mcg per tablet — a high-dose option used particularly by those preparing for or supporting pregnancy.

Approved EFSA Health Claims for Folate:

  • Contributes to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy
