P-5-P 50mg

  • 50mg of Vitamin B6 as P-5-P (pyridoxal-5-phosphate) per tablet
  • The active coenzyme form of B6 — no liver conversion required
  • Vitamin B6 contributes to normal psychological function
Description

Pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P-5-P, also written PLP) is the active coenzyme form of Vitamin B6 — the form actually used by the body's enzymes. Standard B6 supplements use pyridoxine HCl, which the liver has to convert into P-5-P before the body can use it. By supplementing with P-5-P directly, the conversion step is bypassed.

P-5-P is involved in over 100 enzyme reactions in the body, particularly those of amino acid metabolism. It is required for the synthesis of several neurotransmitters including serotonin, dopamine, GABA and noradrenaline, and works as a cofactor with folate and B12 in homocysteine metabolism.

Each tablet provides 50mg of B6 as P-5-P. Long-term high-dose B6 supplementation (typically above 200mg daily over extended periods) has been associated with peripheral nerve effects in some individuals. The UK Government's Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition guideline for prolonged use is below 10mg/day; this product is intended for shorter-term use.

Why I use P-5-P

It helps me to not bite my tongue which tends to swell slightly.
High strength dose ensures some will absorb.
I go along with the efficiency thinking that P-5-P is the best bio-available form.
Phoenix Nutrition is excellent for price, letter box delivery and dependable service.

These are great I always buy these when I run out.
I was buying a lot more expensive brand recommended by my osteopath but swapped to these several years ago and haven’t noticed any difference.
I used to have a nap in the afternoons when not working but rarely do now so tiredness is reduced. I also rarely get colds.
