Niacin (Vitamin B3) is one of the eight essential B vitamins. Our tablets use the nicotinic acid form of niacin — sometimes referred to as the “flush” form. At doses above roughly 50mg, nicotinic acid produces a temporary skin flush: a warm, tingling, pink-skinned sensation that typically lasts 15-30 minutes. This is a normal pharmacological effect of nicotinic acid and is not an allergic reaction.
The flush form is distinct from “no-flush” niacin supplements (which use inositol hexanicotinate) and from the niacinamide form (which does not flush). Each form has different uses and different biological behaviour.
If you have not taken flush-form niacin before, start with a half tablet to assess your tolerance to the flushing effect. Taking with a meal reduces the intensity of the flush.
