Copper is an essential trace mineral required for the formation of several enzymes including superoxide dismutase, cytochrome c oxidase and lysyl oxidase, the last of which is involved in cross-linking collagen and elastin in connective tissues. The body contains around 50-120mg of copper total, mostly in the liver, brain, kidneys and heart.
Our tablets use copper bisglycinate — copper bound to two molecules of the amino acid glycine in a chelated form that the body recognises in a similar way to copper occurring naturally in food. This form is generally well absorbed.
Single-mineral copper supplementation is often chosen by people taking long-term high-dose zinc, since zinc and copper share absorption pathways and prolonged zinc use without copper can deplete copper status.
